Morning In Maine More than 10 years ago Bob Pratt was Director of Planning for Lincoln County, ME, working every day from a windowless basement office that doubled as a fall-out shelter. With a marine biology background, Bob finally heeded the call of the water and started offering sailing trips on his Bristol 35. Demand soon dictated that he obtain a larger boat, so he purchased the Swan V, a 1970 55’ Concordia yacht. Bob renamed her Morning in Maine and dedicates his summers to naturalist tours of Penobscot Bay. “I’m in the entertainment business,” claims Pratt, and he takes his mission seriously. His 2-hour tours include insights to lighthouse history, the fishing industry, marine mammals and birds. Captain Bob intentionally limits the number of passengers to keep the experience personalized. From Memorial Day to Columbus Day, “Meals on Keels” dinner cruises, Boat and Breakfast overnight trips, and “A Day on the Bay” with Captain Jack’s Lobster Cruises are offered along with the 2-hour cruises. Trips run weather permitting. Located on the Pier at Harbor Park, Rockland, 207.691.SAIL, www.amorninginmaine.com. Maine Windjammer Association Rockland is homeport to 7 of the Maine Windjammer Association fleet, the largest fleet of historic windjammers in the country. Sailing gracefully in and out every Saturday from Memorial Day to Labor Day, these regal sailing vessels are eye-turners as they pass the Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse. 800.807.WIND, www.sailmainecoast.com | |
