Where to Eat, Where to Stay

When it comes to eating and staying in Jackson, it seems that you can’t make a bad choice.  One woman we met responded “Thompson House Eatery” when we asked her where she would take visiting friends for lunch.  When we asked her about taking the fictional friends for dinner, her answer was the same.  Finally, when we asked her where the locals eat, she responded,  “Thompson House Eatery” for a third time.     Yet, Jackson also boasts The Inn at Thorn Hill that has won recognition for its 1600+ selection wine cellar.  It and the dining room at The Wentworth boast 4 diamonds from AAA.  The 3-diamond Wildcat Inn prides itself on fresh ingredients and its Tavern offers informal fare, as well as mellow entertainment and its famous “Hoot Night” on Tuesday evenings.
Wondering where to stay?  In the late 1800s, Jackson Village was “Accommodations Central” for the White Mountains, but its allure declined with the Depression of the 1930s.  A resurgence began in the 1980s and today the Village is home to the Eagle Mountain House and The Wentworth, two of only five extant White Mountain grand hotels, and myriad award-winning inns, including The Lodge at Jackson Village, Christmas Farm Inn and Luxury Mountain Getaways.  Bed and Breakfast options are copious: The Inn at Ellis River, the Snowflake Inn, Carter Notch Inn, and the Inn at Jackson to name a few.
Bowser is welcome to stay with you at the Village House and at the Mountainside Farm Bed and Breakfast.
