Home & Garden Secrets from the Innkeeper-Experts

Riverbend Inn, Chocorua, NH
Tips from the Experts
In his prior life in California, Jerry Weiss was a Beverly Hills interior decorator and visual display director for upscale retail stores in New York and Los Angeles. Team this with Craig’s experience in graphic design, and you see that the pair brings a wealth of experience to the Riverbend Inn. Every guest leaves with a new design tip or idea.  The Riverbend innkeeping-decorating duo find, for example, that many people are afraid to use color.  Yet after a night at the Riverbend, guests discover that they in fact respond to the rich, deep colors used throughout the inn.  “Don’t be afraid to go deep and dark,” says Jerry.  “Repainting is the least expensive decorating change you can make!”

Antique and Art Stores
Artwork from Around the World
Here are a few tips from the Riverbend Inn for inexpensive and easy ways to style a room with distinction:

Become familiar with local antique and art stores.  Work with those offering liberal return policies, then select the piece you want and bring it home.  If it doesn’t work, simply take it back or exchange it.
Don’t be afraid to mix reproductions with original artwork.  In fact, the inexpensive décor will elevate the art.
When you travel, be sure to purchase art or cultural works for your home. It doesn’t have to be big to make an impact.  Each time you look, your treasure will conjure memories of that trip, becoming more than just a possession.  It will be a reminder of great journeys past
–and a promise of even more to come.
