Alana Harold, Classic Country Life Magazine, New England magazine, NH, VT, ME, RI, CT, MA, NY
Alana Harold, Editor-in-Chief/Founder

Wow, where do I begin?  It would have to be when I was 17 and the drive to be a publisher was born.  I loved everything there was about magazines, so I spent the next decade and a half honing my skills, broadening my vision and aligning the stars to bring my dream to life.
Once the spark for Classic Country Life was ignited, the concept began taking shape at a blazing speed.  Everything about it just felt right and fell into place as if predestined.  What an exciting journey this has been, filled with the privilege of learning about the remarkable people and places we bring to you in this magazine.

The concept originated from a basic fundamental need–the need to know.  Being new to New England myself, I had been searching for a resource that could give me insight to the area I had fallen in love with over 7 years before when I was visiting my grandfather.
I desperately wanted a local’s magazine with a touch of class that would speak to me personally, both as a local and a visitor to all 6 New England states and New York.  I wanted a magazine that I myself would be inspired to read–not to mention–one that would be worth collecting.
The Entrepreneur in me said, “When living in an out-of-the-way place, if it’s not here already, you make it happen” because that’s what we do in the country.  Good jobs often require a long commute, so, as a result, rural towns frequently are powered by creative and innovative professionals–many who have relocated from our neighboring cities add spice to a flavor-filled town.
Living in Wolfeboro, NH, I have been impressed by the number of successful businesses of all shapes and sizes.  The “Entrepreneurial spirit” is a part of our culture, defining a piece of the personality puzzle that makes New England so charming.
Classic Country Life Magazine is an authentic showcase for that personality–celebrating the unique cultures, insights, adventures, great shops and services that New England offers.  Keeping the reader in mind, this magazine brings you the exceptional.  Everything we do at Classic Country Life follows by definition.
The issue’s exceptional stories begin by highlighting Paul Cushman of Holloway Motor Cars of Manchester, NH P4.  Find out what is special about his team of managers.  Move from business to pleasure as we take you outdoors P8.  I can hardly wait to take you climbing with Chicks with Picks.  We bring you 2 in-depth town tours, the Mount Washington Valley of NH P19 and Rockland, ME P39.  Take a historical tour to the present day with renowned writer Bryant F. Tolles, Jr. in Living Legacy P31.  Get inspired to design a Genial and Gracious Kitchen P60.  Explore how partners from the west transformed a B&B into an exquisite eastern escape P64.  Arts and Entertainment features glassblower Philip Jacobs in one of my favorite articles, Fire Play P78.  Jacobs epitomizes the Classic Country Life spirit.  Plan your next holiday with our Exceptional Accommodations guide P89 and what can be better than New England made gifts P51?

I know you will enjoy Classic Country Life Magazine as much as we have enjoyed creating it.  I personally invite you to write to me about your New England experiences and the remarkable people who have touched your life.–Alana Harold, Editor-in-Chief / Founder
